**If every person in the U.S. were to line up in a line and walk by you at a rate of one per second, how long would it take for you to count them?
**

**
Well to start with there are about 250,000,000 people in the US. that means that it would take 250,000,000 seconds! How long is that? Well let's see.
**

**
First 250,000,000 seconds is 4166666.67 minutes.. I got that by dividing 250,000,000 by 60 seconds per minute.
**

**
Then 4166666.67 minutes is 69444.44 hours.. I got that by dividing by 60 minutes per hour.
**

**
After that 69444.44 hours is 2893.52 days.. I got that by dividing by 24 hours per day.
**

**
Then 2893.52 days is 7.93 years!! That's a lot of people.
**

**
So.... imagine how much time it takes to do a census of the US. Even with computers it takes longer than that in manhours to count up all of the information because the census does a lot more than just count people. No wonder they only have a census every 10 years.
**

**
Now counting all the people in the world that's another matter. There are about 5,000,000,000 people (that's 5 billion). At one second each that would be 158.60 years!!!! If you're going to count that up, you better start counting right now. There is one problem though, by the time you finish (around 2148) there will be about 40 billion, if the people population of the earth continues to grow at the rate that it has for the last 50 years.
**

**
Right now there are there are 160 babies born every minute on the earth. At the same time 60 people die every minute. That leaves an increase of 100 people every minute on the earth
.**

**
It just might get a bit crowded. **

population to my son's 4th grade class.
